Ruth Eleanor Carberry
January 7, 1928 - November 18, 2025
Ruth Eleanor Carberry, age 97, went home to be with our Lord on November 18, 2025. She had been a resident of the Amelia House for the past 5 and a half years. Ruthie was born January 7, 1928, in Dunlap, IA., to the late Chris and Mayme (Holihan) Madison and was a 1945 graduate of St.Francis High School .
She worked at World Insurance and the DAV Thrift Store retiring in 2006. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church most of her life and St. Ann's Altar and Rosary Society. Her faith was paramount to her, and she trusted the Lord completely.
In addition to her parents Ruthie is preceded in death by her husband Dorlan V. "Blackie" Carberry in December of 1990; son Chris C. Carberry in April of 2008; 3 sisters and a brother.
Ruthie was a sweet, kind, spunky "young lady" who had an ornery streak and a kind word for everyone she met. She loved to play bingo and visit the casino. She loved people and would do anything for anyone. Ruthie had quite the sweet tooth and often ate her dessert first and very much enjoyed her Sunday chocolate milkshakes. She had a love of animals, especially her Boxer dogs and collected elephants. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her niece and caregiver, Brenda (Mark) Flores, of Council Bluffs; grandnephew, Dr. Steven (Kim) Flores, of Milwaukee, WI., grandniece, Jessica (Joel) Dizona & their children, Callen and Graham, of Bennington, NE., nephew, Brian (Julie) Travis; grandniece, Megan Travis; grandniece, Briana (Kaleb) Hamilton and their children, Emmett and Maxine, all of Council Bluffs; nephew, Bob Hemmingsen, of Colorado and many more nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Recitation of the Rosary will be held Monday, December 1, 2025, at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., all at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1 Bluff Street in Council Bluffs.
Ruth will be laid to rest at Ridgewood Mausoleum followed by a luncheon at St. Peter's Kottas Hall.
The family is forever grateful to the wonderful caregivers at Amelia Place who so graciously help Ruthie navigate her difficult journey with Alzheimer's. You are all appreciated.
Memorials are suggested to the
Alzheimer's Association or St. Peter's Catholic Church.
