Susan Marie Merritt, age 80, of Council Bluffs, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, at CHI-Mercy Hospital.
She was born May 22,1945, in Council Bluffs to the late William and Leota Pleas Staats and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. She devoted her life to her family as a loving homemaker and found great joy in hosting family gatherings, where her warmth and kindness created lasting memories.
On January 1, 1967, Susan married Richard Merritt, her devoted husband of 59 years. Together they built a life centered on love and family.
She is survived by husband, Richard; daughters, Tammy Blanchard and husband George, Shawn Budwell and husband Christopher, all of Council Bluffs, Cheryl Terry and husband Randy of Omaha, Neb.
Susan's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Cheyenne and Pheonix Terry, George Blanchard, Devin Kemmish, Ashligh Budwell and Nicholas Budwell; and her great-grandchildren, Leena Arrick, Parker Kemmish, and Thea Blanchard. She is also survived by her sister, Robin Brown-Hanson.
Visitation for family and friends, Sunday, December 7th, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral services will follow on Monday, December 8th, at 1 p.m., at the same location. Susan will be laid to rest at Ridgewood Cemetery.
Susan will be remembered for her devotion to family, her gentle spirit, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
