Timothy Ross Obituary

Timothy Joseph Ross Timothy Joseph Ross of Council Bluffs, IA, passed away March 3, 2022. Tim was born August 27, 1967, to Patrick and Cheryll (Bunn) Ross in Newton, IA. On March 15, 1997, he married Ellen Hanson in Council Bluffs, IA. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; son, Maxton; and daughter, Meg. He also is survived by his brother Tom (Warsaw, IN); his sister Theresa (Omaha, NE); mother-in-law Carolyn Hanson (Council Bluffs, IA); and brother-in-law, Kirk (Tami) Wolden-Hanson (Woodinville, WA); two nephews, Andrew and Aaron Ross (Warsaw, IN); and many, many other beloved family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his father-in-law, Ronald Hanson; sister-in-law, Heather Ross; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tim greatly loved his family and friends and cherished spending time with them. Tim was a talented runner and ran for both Glenwood High School and the University of Northern Iowa, where he was a four-year varsity letter winner. Many of his dearest friends and fondest memories were made through his time on the Northern Iowa Track & Field team. After graduation, he began his career as a juvenile court officer serving the communities of Southwest Iowa. He served as a field officer, intake officer, placement officer, and eventually was appointed Chief Juvenile Court Officer for the Fourth Judicial District of Iowa. Throughout his career, Tim served on the Iowa Supreme Court Juvenile Justice Taskforce, was Co-chair of the Community Based Services Work group, served on the State Training School Review Committee and IPRC Specialized Delinquency Beds Committee. In addition, Tim was a board member of Promise Partners, Inc. and served on the executive committee. He was a key member of the Court Improvement Committee for the Fourth Judicial District and was an active member of the Western Iowa Service Area program contractor group covering programs for 30 Iowa counties. Tim was recently named to the Iowa Supreme Court Juvenile Justice Task Force by Chief Justice Susan Christensen. In his free time, Tim enjoyed attending his children's activities, spending time with family and friends, hunting pheasant with his beloved dog, Elvis, listening to Tom Petty and U2, and cheering for his favorite teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Detroit Lions. Tim will be remembered as a loving father and husband, a loyal friend, and a man of great integrity. Visitation will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Council Bluffs, IA, March 8, 2022, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held March 9, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. also at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment will be private. Memorials are suggested to National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, Saint Albert Catholic Schools, or Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Council Bluffs. The Ross family would like to thank all who have provided them with an abundance of kindness and support during this difficult time.

Dear Ross Family
Sorry to hear about Tim. Fell out of touch with him here in recent years, but would see him time again at the Drake Relays. Rosco was one fun dude and one of the best competitors I've had the opportunity to watch. He will be greatly missed. Godspeed to you.

Dear Ross Family
So sorry to hear about Tim. I always had positive encounters and fun when around Rosco. Fell out of touch with him in these later years, but whenever Glenwood Track & Field was brought up - especially around Drake Relays time - Tim's name would come up. Fun dude for sure. He will be missed, but live on in our memories.
Maxton & Meg - your dad was one hell of a competitor. One of the best that I've ever seen. Just wanted to let you know that.
Take care and Godspeed.

Ellen, my deepest and most sincere condolences to you and the family. Although Tim and I did not stay in touch after high school, he is present in many of my best memories of that time. He was a person of great character, extremely talented and ever humble. I am so very sorry for your untimely loss.
