Albert Catracchia Obituary

Albert M. Catracchia

Former Butler resident, Albert M. Catracchia, 86, died January 9, 2018 in Oviedo, Florida. He was born in Ferentino, Italy on April 9, 1931 to Allessandro Catracchia and Elena Coppotelli and emigrated to Scranton, Pennsylvania, as an infant. "Al" was husband to the former Dorothy M. Ware, also of Scranton for 63 years until her passing in 2015.

Inducted into the U.S. Army in 1952, Al honorably served abroad in Germany during the Korean War conflict. The couple moved to Passaic, N.J., and later bought their first home on Belleview Terrace in Butler where they lived for 40 years before retiring to Florida in 2006.

Al worked until pensioned by the Continental Can Company of Paterson. He was later employed as a service manager for Electrolux in Pompton Plains, and as a school crossing guard in Florida.

Al was of the Catholic faith and is remembered as a kind and caring person. He supported many charities and volunteered as a Salvation Army bell ringer, and Meals-On-Wheels driver, in Florida. He was an avid fan of the NY Giants, a landscaping enthusiast, and liked to play cards.

Al was predeceased by his beloved wife, parents, a brother, and sister. He is survived by a daughter, Diane Fay, her husband, Richard, a grandson, Brian Fay, two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Reagan, and Sarah Fay, all of Oviedo, Florida. He is also survived by siblings, Anna Orr (Bill), Clare Roverts (Paul), Joseph Catracchia (Marie); several nieces, nephews, and cousins in Pennsylvania and other states.

The family was served by the National Cremation Society of Florida. Inurnment of both Albert and Dorothy will take place this summer at Fairview Memorial Park, under the 23rd Psalm, in Elmhurst, Pennsylvania.
