Ameer Salahuddin Obituary
SALAHUDDIN
Ameer Pasha, of Paterson, NJ entered into eternal rest on Wednesday morning at The St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, Paterson, NJ following a heart attack. Ameer was born April 3, 1938, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the son of William and Azalee Gray. He resided in Paterson, NJ for 72 years. In 1958 he was married to Zakiyyah Salahuddin his wife of 55 years. Over fifty years of dedicated service to the religion of Al-Islam. He was the Imam of the oldest Islamic Center in Paterson, NJ. In addition he worked as an Islamic Counselor at The Bergen County Jail and Hospital for 35 years. Predeceased by: Mc Kinnely Gray, William Gray, Issac, Hayward Gray, Odessa Gray. Surviving are: one daughter, Fatimah Lewis: one son, Karriem Gray and his wife Kim Gray. Surviving also are two granddaughters: Imani Bibbins and Safiyyah Bibbins, three grandsons: Zyhere Gray, Malik Gray, Amir Gray; one great-grandson, Saigen Woods, nieces and nephews. Imam Ameer Pasha Salahuddin was a highly spiritual man, a man of God and Humanitarian. His life's work was dedicated to promoting peace and unity beyond boundaries of race, religion and culture. He was loved and respected by his family, friends the community he served and the world at large. Ameer Pasha Salahuddin will be sorely missed. A Memorial Celebration will be held for him 10 AM Friday, January 25, at The Passaic/Paterson Islamic Center 245 Broadway Paterson NJ. Arrangements by: The Carnie P. May Allah grant you a spacious grave Mr. pasha as I would call him. I remember him gifting me with my first Holy Quran as a little girl. He was always someone that could make me laugh just by the way he would pronounce my name. You will truly be missed and I pray that Allah (SWT) make it easy for your family.

I loved Ameer Salaahuddin from the center of my heart. His friendship and leadership in my personal life is without measure. He gave me shahada more than 25 years ago and married me and my wife. I am deeply saddened today. I pray that Allah have mercy on him and his family and give him the good of this life and the next.

My prayers and thoughts are with Brother Ameer's Wife,Children,Grand Children. Bro Ameer was a real soldier for the cause of expanding Islam in the black community. I watched Bro Ameer / his wife from the early 60's when they were the only Muslims in Paterson expand to 1,000's of believers in the city. Great Brother he will be missed.
