Bart DiPaola Obituary

Bart DiPaola

Bart DiPaola, age 86, of Wayne passed away peacefully on Saturday April 28, 2018.

Bart was born in Paterson, lived in Haledon, until moving to Wayne forty-one years ago. He graduated from Paterson Central High School with the class of 1949. In 1951 he received the call to serve his country in the US Army and served honorably from 1951 to 1952. Afterwards, Bart attended Montclair State College where he earned his Bachelor's and then his Master's Degree. He taught at Paterson Central HS for two years, then taught at Manchester Regional HS for six years, where he was also their first football coach and Athletic Director. He spent the next twenty-six years at Pascack Hills HS in Montvale as Vice Principal, and then as Principal. He kept this position until his retirement in 1994. He was the President of the Haledon BOE and also a member of the Haledon Library Trustees. Bart was also closely involved in Haledon's local politics. Bart and his wife Joann cherished nearly sixty years of loving and loyal marriage. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid Giants and Yankees fan and was well loved in the Montvale community where he worked. In his honor, Pascack Hills HS has named their athletic field, "Bart DiPaola Field." Bart will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.

Bart is survived by his wife Joann (nee Magrino) of Wayne, one daughter, Ann Mary O'Rourke and her husband John of Wayne, one son John DiPaola and his wife Dawn of Wayne, two sisters Catherine Gravino of Haledon, and Antoinette Citro of Florida, and five grandchildren; John Bart, Jeffery Bart, Kristen Ann, Joanna, and Stephen Robert. He was predeceased by his brother Louis DiPaola.

Joann, I was so sorry to hear about Bart's passing. I couldn't believe it! We were good friends at Montclair State, and I think I was instrumental in your relationship with him. I couldn't find your address, so I'm writing this way. Bart helped me take a one-year position at Pascack Valley (took Barbara Sapienza's place when she moved into administration). It's a good story! I graduated in 1959, was a member of Sigma Delta Pi, and also a business major! Give me a call when things slow down. 201-444-3015.

So sorry again. Alice (Gionti) Petkus-Mason
