null Bchakjian Obituary

BCHAKJIAN Maurice Mesrob, 76 of Clifton, NJ, on March 5, 2008. Born in New York City, he lived in Yonkers before moving to Clifton thirty-seven years ago. Maurice attended Dewitt Clinton High School and NYU University. In high school, he was a Star football player during the 1946-1949 season, and spent his Summers as a counselor at a football camp. He was a retired graphic artist and a member of the Photoengravers' and Lithographers' Union. He was also affiliated with Yonkers Raceway for fifty years, and was an avid horseman, owning several harness racehorses. Maurice was very proud of his heritage and was instrumental in having two books translated, one from Armenian, the other from German, to English so that today's youth would have an opportunity to read about the trials of their Armenian ancestors in English. Most recently, a third book had been commissioned for translation, and will be published by the end of 2008. He was a parishioner of St. Leon Armenian Apostolic Church of Fair Lawn, NJ. He is survived by his wife Anne, daughters Maro Bchakjian and Lisa Tutunjian and her husband Armen and grandson Michael. He is also survived by his brothers Arthur of Greers, S.C. and Michael of Greenville, SC. The family will receive their friends on Sunday March 9 the from 3-7 PM at St. Leon Armenian Church 12-61 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn N J. Funeral Services will be on Monday March 10th at St. Leon Armenian Church at 10 AM. Interment following Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Leon Armenian Church, Maurice and Anne Bchajkian Endowment Fund. Arrangements by William G. Basralian Funeral Home, Oradell.
