Bernard R., Ph.D., 86, of Teaneck, formerly of Summit, NJ died on Sunday, November 27, 2016.
Beloved husband of 59.5 years to Lihsiang, PhD., (nee Shang). Loving father of L. Wayne and the late L. Louise (2009). Adored brother of Ruchi Huang, PhD., Rubin Chow, PhD. And Thomas Chow PhD. Dear grandfather of Michael B. Wong, Christopher A. Wong and Michelle C. Sanford. Cherished great grandfather of Grace Louise and Langston Ellis.
Dr. Cheo was a Professor Emeritus of Polytechnic University (The Brooklyn Poly; presently, Polytechnic Institute of New York University). In a career of half century, his work has spanned a very broad spectrum of subject areas, with about 100 publications. Subjects include antenna theory, mm wave communication systems, radar, plasma/ fusion physics, gyrotrons, nonlinear waves, linear accelerators and solid state RF/ microwave amplifiers. He has provided consulting services to various industrial and government organizations, including Grumman, Norden, Bell Labs, US Army ETDL, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. He holds three US patents. Dr. Cheo began his academic career at NYU in 1962 as a faculty member of Department of Electrical Engineering. He has directed numerous Ph.D. students at NYU and Polytechnic with strong dedication. He is a member of Honor Societies for Scientist and engineer, Sigma Xi, Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi. In 1988; he received the Polytechnic Sigma Xi Citation. Dr. Cheo received BS from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, MS degree from University of Notre Dame, and Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley, all in Electrical Engineering. Dr. Cheo is the founder and President of Aria Microwave Systems Inc. which he formed upon his retirement in 1996. AMS venture has successfully received funding from DoD R & D in Active Radio Frequency Cavity Amplifier. In addition, Dr. Cheo had a deep and broad appreciation of Chinese and Western history, poetry and literature … with a profound love of classical music.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, November 30th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck. A cremation will be private. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 10th at 10:30 AM at Teaneck Presbyterian Church, 1 Church Street, Teaneck.
