Christine (nee Rees), age 83 of West Palm Beach, FL, on Saturday, February 27, 2016. Born in Haledon, Christine had resided in Paterson before moving to Hawthorne in 1957. A former member of the Calvary Methodist Church in Paterson, Christine had done office work at F.G. Montebert in Midland Park after the death of her husband. Always active with her children's schooling, Christine acted as a class mother, a grade parent, and a member of the Washington School PTO in Hawthorne. She was involved with the Girl Scouts and was an avid knitter. She enjoyed knitting blankets for maternity wards to use for premature babies. Christine Barkenbush was the beloved wife of the late Edward Barkenbush (1972). Loving mother of Cathy Europa and her husband Joseph of Hasbrouck Heights, Susan Carlini and her husband Anthony of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Peter Barkenbush and his wife Heather of Hawthorne, and William Barkenbush and his wife Lisa, also of Hawthorne. Dear grandmother of Melissa, Toni and Rachel Carlini, and Nicholas, Julie, Kyle, and Dean Barkenbush, and great grandmother of Colin. Sister of the late Max Rees. Aunt of Sandra Walsh and her husband William, Glenn Rees and his wife Marilyn, and Wendy Verrico.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne. Interment will follow at the Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
