Christopher Mahoney Obituary

MAHONEY Christopher John, of Pearl River, NY, died Friday, February 29, 2008 at his daughter's home after a long illness. He was 85 years old. Chris was born on March 29, 1922 in New York City to Christopher and Delia (Butler) Mahoney. He served in the United States Army during WW II as a member of the signal corps. He suffered significant hearing loss as a result of his service. Chris married Mary E. Mahoney on September 12, 1953 in the Church of the Annunciation located in the Vinegar Hill section of Manhattan. They lived in Inwood (Manhattan) for 20 years and were parishioners of Good Shepherd Parish. He moved to Pearl River in 1973 and became a parishioner of St. Aedan's Church. He was employed for many years at Emery World Wide as a cargo agent. He retired in 1987. Chris was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and loyalty to his friends. He had a generous spirit and true love for life. He is survived by his children, Christopher and Kelly Mahoney of West Nyack, Susan and Raymond Gehringer of River Edge, NJ, Marybeth and Joseph Clinton of Pearl River, and Kevin and Jane Mahoney also of Pearl River. Loving grandfather to Kevin, Christopher and Thomas Mahoney, Tara, Joseph, Laura, Kelly and Erin Clinton, Eric Gehringer, and Kate, Aileen and Megan Mahoney. He is also survived by his sister Marion Sullivan. He was predeceased by his wife, his parents, his sister Helen Forkin-Ryan and three brother-in-laws, Thomas Forkin, Jack Ryan and Jack Sullivan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Wednesday, at St. Aedan's R.C. Church, Pearl River. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery. Visiting is Monday from 7-9 PM and Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., Pearl River, NY 10965.
