Paramus - Civita Acocella-McCarthy passed away July 15, 2021, at the age of 77. She was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. She attended Evander Childs High School, Bronx, NY and was a graduate of Iona College, New Rochelle, NY. She started her advertising career in 1962 in New York City. After several years as a typist, media estimator and media buyer, Civita crossed over the desk to media sales at WVJ-Radio, WOR and WPAT Radio, New York City.
Civita met her husband, Donald McCarthy on January 1, 1979. They married in 1982 and moved to Paramus, New Jersey.
Civita was a Roman Catholic volunteer at Bergen Pines Hospital (New Bridge) transporting and administering the Holy Eucharist to long-term residents since 1983.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, her parents, Michaelangelo and Florinda Acocella and Angelica Acocella, sister Mary and brother-in-law Anthony Polce, John Sr., and Helen McCarthy, John and Lucille McCarthy, Vincent McCarthy, and sister-in-law Patricia Sammy as well as Jill Levey and Josephine Doucette.
She is survived by her sisters, Carmela Acocella, Geraldine and brother-in-law Robert Doucette, brother Vincent and sister-in-law Jean Acocella, 23 nieces and nephews, as well as many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Services will be held at William G. Basralian Funeral Home, 559 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell, NJ on Monday, July 19th from 6-9PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Our Lady of Visitation Church, 234 N. Farview Avenue in Paramus, NJ on Tuesday, July 20th at 11AM. Entombment following at Garden of Memories in Washington Township, NJ.
