FOX LAKE - Helen Golemba nee Mrozowicz, 97, a Fox Lake resident for the past 14 years and formerly of Chicago, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Alden Terrace Nursing Home in McHenry.
She was born Nov. 6, 1911, in Chicago, to Matheus and Margaritta nee Nowicki Mrozowicz and was united in marriage to Thaddeus "Ted" Golemba on June 13, 1936, at St. Boniface Church in Chicago.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family, especially baby-sitting her grandchildren. She was one of the original members of the Chicago Bloomer Girls Baseball League and an avid Cubs fan. She read, gardened, crocheted, played bunco and cards and bowled.
She fished in Wisconsin and Canada and had bragging rights, having landed an 18-pound northern.
She will be greatly missed by her sons, Ronald (Jeannette) Golemba of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Donald (Carol) Golemba of Johnsburg; her grandchildren, Joseph (Stephanie) Golemba of St. Charles, Judi Smith of Broken Arrow, Okla., James (Kelly) Golemba of Spring Grove and Richard (Jennifer) Golemba of Wauconda; her great-grandchildren, Amanda, Jonathan, Danielle and Samantha; three nieces; her great-nieces; her great-nephews; her goddaughter, Susan Forsythe of Mount Prospect; and her many friends at Lilac Apt. in Fox Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, in 1984; her son, Theodore, in 1939; her parents; her brothers, John, Al and Stanley; and her sister, Sophie.
The visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at K. K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road, Fox Lake, (the chapel of the lake, a block west of Route 12, a half-block north of Grand Avenue). The visitation will continue from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the funeral home. A Catholic funeral Mass celebration will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church St., Johnsburg.
Burial will be in St. Adalberts Catholic Cemetery in Niles.
