Joseph Masters Obituary

Joseph D. Masters, 85, of East Stroudsburg passed away Sunday morning in his home.

Born on Sept. 13, 1917, in New York, N.Y., he was the son of the late Elizabeth (McGuire) and Daniel Masters. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Bertucci) Masters, at home. He has lived in East Stroudsburg since 1972, and was a former resident of Shawnee-on-Delaware and Tarrytown, N.Y.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theater. Joseph worked as a project manager in the construction industry for more than 40 years, primarily in New York City. Dravo Constructors Inc. employed him prior to his retirement in January 1986.

He was a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg, Catholics in Construction, Municipal Engineers of the City of New York and a life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

In addition to his wife, a daughter, Pamela Anne Masters of East Stroudsburg, and two sisters, Mary Pitman of Danbury, Conn., and Jane DeVito of Toms River, N.J., survive him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg. Monsignor John A. Bergamo will officiate. Cremation will follow the services at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. Private burial will take place in the Shawnee Church Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Visiting Nurse Association/Hospice of Monroe County, 502 Independence Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
