Eugene HACKER Obituary

HACKER Eugene "Gene", 91, on August, 13, 2010 of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Oradell and Hackensack for over 60 Years. Gene was born in New York City and graduated from George Washington High School in 1937 and attended Brauch College. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a successful entrepreneur who started many businesses which eventually led to the opening of Gene Hacker Camera Shop in 1945. In 1979 he was voted NJ Retailer of the Year and many patrons knew him as "The Camera Doctor". He was a lifelong member of Rotary and was named Rotarian of the Year in 1978.He was a photographer, painter and sculptor. In his retirement he was a docent at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in the collections department. Gene was also known as "The Hat Man" for his Collection of over 400 hats that he acquired from his travels around the world. Gene was the beloved husband of the late Bella. Devoted father of Maxine Anderson and the late Lillian R Ashton. Loving grandfather of Stacey Ashton, Brent Ashton, Eric Anderson and Brian Anderson and great grandfather of Ethan Anderson. Graveside service Monday, August 16, 2010 at 11 AM in Riverside Cemetery, Saddle Brook, NJ. Contributions may be made to the Bella Hacker Endowment Fund which is dedicated to the treatment of pediatric patients at Hackensack University Medical Center. Arrangements Gutterman and Musicant.
