It is difficult to believe that Gene left us 6 years ago. His memory burns bright within me - his sense of humor and the unquestionable loyalty to his friends. I could always count on Gene , no matter what.
God bless you my friend .

It has been 5 years since Gene passed and not a day goes by without a memory coming into my thoughts . He was a unique man who has a tight circle of friends and how lucky I was to be in the circle. Gene always gave me the best advice and had a calming way about him that made you feel comfortable. I will always hold our friendship so dear to me because Gene was very special and I miss him .

I am writing this three years after Gene passed. I attended the services for Gene but I feel I need to express how much I miss my great friend. Gene and I met in 1968 at Belleville Jr. High School. He was coaching the 9th grade basketball team and I became his assistant. We remained friends after he moved to Wayne Valley. Both of us continued to coach and as fate would have it we were reunited at Our Lady of the Valley HS . We had great success there.
Gene was a great friend . He was honest, kind, loyal, had a wonderful sense of humor . I miss him every day .

We were neighbors in Seaside Park, and Gene was very caring and kind to our parents, and especially our Dad, Dominic, when our mom passed away. He shared his talents as a master craftsman. We are very sorry for your loss, and send our deepest sympathy to Carol and her family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless you. The Angelini, Fisher, and Barba families.

I am so sorry to hear about Gene. Gene was my mentor at WV and the reason that I am an architect. I loved his class and learned so much about the profession, spending hours with him talking about it and talking about where to go to college. Even though he pointed me to the Penn State Architectural Engineering curriculum and said, "you don't want to be an architect, you'll end up drawing stair details for the majority of your career. Go to Penn State for the Arch Eng program. You'll be happier." I took his advice but didn't get into the program. I went to UM, became an architect, had my own firm in NYC, and now am principal at Gensler, the largest firm in the world. All due to Gene.
Thanks Gene for being my mentor, coach and friend. RIP

To my dear friend Gman
This is my eulogy to a fine man teacher neighbor dear friend Eugene Gene Gman G Coach Manfra
I have to say I am so blessed and grateful that our paths have crossed and we became friends
Always the teacher he shared his love of music books writing stories of his childhood and some of the best years of his life as a teacher where he met so many people who became his life long friends
And of course his love for Seaside Park with his wife Carol who built a beautiful home together and welcomed friends for a tea or a cocktail some fresh sea air to share stories and my favorite pasta Sunday
A very passionate man he gave 150% in everything he did including Sloan
He was rock hard on the outside yet still a little boy who was kind and gentle on the inside
So thank you Jesus for my dear friend Gene and all the wonderful memories
Forever in my heart
One of the last things he taught me was
You have a body
You don't have a soul
You are A soul
May your journey be peaceful my dear friend

Gene was one of the best teachers at Wayne Valley High School that influenced me to continue in architecture. I loved his class, and him as a teacher and role model. Me and Tom Holdsworth were in his class every year-Class of 75. RIP Gene Manfra.

While his friends continued to learn his profound 'Gene-isms' - legendary terms, subtle actions, and knowledge - I'm certain Carol had the foresight of his uncanny wit and insight, many years ago.
Gene: Integrity, loyalty, teacher, and friend.
Carol...you are his sunlight...Rudy and Lea...you completed the rays.
Much love,
Marlene

I can honestly say that Mr. Manfra shaped my professional life to this day. I remember talking about where to go to college one day in his class. I was toying with going to school for Architecture. He pointed to the Penn State Architectural Engineering curriculum on the wall and said, "you don't want to be an architect, you'll end up drawing stair details for the majority of your career and maybe if you're lucky enough you'll work your way up to be able to actually design the building. Go to Penn State for the Arch Eng program. You'll be happier." For some crazy reason, I took his advice, and the rest, as they say, is history. I still work at an Architectural Engineering firm to this day (24 years later) and get to work with amazing architects all the time. I'm still connected to the artistic side of the built environment and it has been a great career. Thanks Mr. Manfra. You will be missed.
