George Charles (Charlie), 85, a lifetime resident of Rutherford, passed away on January 8th, 2013. He was born to George and Edith Potor, February 16, 1927.
Charlie graduated from Rutherford HS in 1944. He played basketball, tennis and was on the last golf team at Rutherford HS.
He was a sheet metal mechanic for 40 years with New York Local 28.
He was an avid sports fan who witnessed every sport at least once at Rutherford HS and was a charter member of the Rutherford HS Athletic Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a contributor in 2006, and at the time of his death was the oldest living Hall of Famer.
He enjoyed coaching youth sports in Rutherford during his younger years and coached Farm League Baseball and Junior League Football.
Charlie will be missed by his beloved wife Kathleen Potor (nee Farrell) of 62 years and his four sons; George Potor and Terri Peterson of Lewisburg, PA, Kevin and Claudia Potor of Burlington, NJ, Larry and Janet Potor of Beachwood NJ, Tom and Connie Potor of Rutherford, NJ. He was proud of his grandchildren, Terran Potor of Baltimore, Brian Potor and wife Andrea of Lanoka Harbor, NJ, Corin Potor of Georgia, Lauren Potor of Philadelphia and Kelly Potor and Sean Potor of Rutherford, NJ; his great-grandchildren, Kaylyn Potor and Baby Boy Potor who will carry on the family name; his step grandchildren,
Gary and Karen Creaney, Brian and Cindy Horne and great-step grandchildren, Connor, Logan, Shannon, Brady and Jack. He is predeceased by his siblings, Edith Glass and Dorothy Younger.
Funeral Friday 8:30 AM from The Collins Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave. Rutherford, followed by 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford NJ. Interment: Hillside. Cemetery Lyndhurst, NJ. Family and friends will be received Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
