Dr. Gerhard, age 89, of Fair Lawn, NJ, formerly of Elmwood Park, NJ, passed away peacefully, at his home, on Thursday afternoon, June 26, 2014. Beloved husband of Adell (nee: Epstein) Lang for 62 years. Devoted father of Kenneth Marc Lang and his wife Paula of Wayne, NJ and Dr. Judith Helene Knutsen and her husband Kirk of Lyndhurst, NJ. Cherished grandfather of Brian and Adam Lang and Brooke and Courtney Knutsen. Dr. Lang was born in Mannheim, Germany and came to America in 1941 settling in Queens, NY and had lived in New York City and Elmwood Park until moving to Fair Lawn in 1964. Dr. Lang taught graduate and under-graduate classes at Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ, for over 40 years and also maintained a private practice in Fair Lawn. Dr. Lang was a graduate of City College in New York City where he earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Psychology and earned his PhD in Educational Psychology at Columbia University in New York City. Dr. Lang was a longtime, active member of Fair Lawn Jewish Center where he sang in the Synagogue's choir and assisted with the children's choir and was also a member of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Lang was a Holocaust survivor. Services will be 10 AM, Sunday, at Louis Suburban Chapel, 13-01 Broadway (Route 4 West), Fair Lawn, NJ. Burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery, Paramus, NJ. Memorial donations in memory of Dr. Gerhard Lang may be made to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, 1399 South Roxbury Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90035.
