Ghodsi Gorji of Alpine, NJ passed away the evening of May 6th, 2015, surrounded by close family. Ghodsi, better known as Maman Ghodsi, leaves behind four children, Dr. Bahram Iromloo, Dr. Genia Panahi, Mrs. Nahid Ahmadi, and Dr. Nassrin Zahedi, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Maman Ghodsi was well-known amongst those who knew her for being an unbelievably devoted mother and grandmother whose life selflessly revolved around her children, grandchildren and close friends. Ghodsi gave up her life in Iran and immigrated to the United States to ensure greater opportunities for her children and grandchildren. In Iran, Maman Ghodsi represented an emerging class of educated and working women during the period of Iranian modernization. She was devoted to her job as a school principal and considered it one of her most pleasant and rewarding life experiences. Following the Iranian Revolution of 1979, Ghodsi retired and immigrated to the United States to be with her children, who had already settled there. In America she was an active member of the Iranian-American community who supported the preservation and celebration of Iranian culture and heritage. Maman Ghodsi was known for her near-permanent smile and loving, caring demeanor, two characteristics that ensured those around her- anyone from a server at a restaurant to her caretakers- felt supported and loved. As a friend put it, "For all of us, Maman Ghodsi was the symbol of love, dignity and elegance and her sweetness and kindness will never fade." Maman Ghodsi and her infectious love will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service was held in her honor on Saturday, May 9th, at the Barrett Funeral in Tenafly.
