Hedy Bagatelle Obituary

BAGATELLE Hedy S. (Schwartz), 69, of South Orange, NJ and Lake Hopatcong, NJ, died peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2008. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, the late Warren Bagatelle. She is survived by her loving children David Bagatelle and his wife Sharon, Tracy Bagatelle-Black and her husband Forbes, and Adrien Bagatelle, and her grandchildren Olivia and Emma Bagatelle, and Molly and Alexander Black. Hedy graduated magna cum laude from The University at Albany and continued to the support the college as a member of The University at Albany Foundation Board, the Jewish Studies Advisory Board and the Library Development Committee. Under her leadership, the university made arrangements to acquire the Jewish Heritage Video Collection, the microfilm edition of the Rabbi Stephen S. Wise papers, and a rare Czech Torah scroll rescued from the Holocaust to mark the inauguration of the Center for Jewish Studies in 2002. Hedy was also a member of the Garden State Yacht Club and the Antique and Classic Boat Society. She was a wonderful friend to many. She enjoyed numerous activities including traveling, boating, gardening, decorating and spending time with family and friends at the summer home in Lake Hopatcong. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 20 at 10 AM at the Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ, 07039. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be payable to The University at Albany Foundation (1400 Washington Ave, UAB 226, Albany, NY 12222) for the Center for Jewish Studies.
