Herbert (Bert) Sweeney Jr

Virginia Beach - Herbert (Bert) Sweeney Jr. passed away on Sunday June 13th in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Bert was born on June 14th 1948 to Herbert and Louise Sweeney in Bayonne, New Jersey.

He was a graduate of Jersey City State College where he was a brother in Kappa Delta Phi. fraternity.

Bert was a State Farm Insurance agent in Summit, New Jersey, who delighted in helping his clients meet and solve challenges.

Bert was married to his wife, Mary, for forty-eight years. Together they had two sons, Gregory (Melanie) and Mark, and two granddaughters, Amelia and Jane.

Besides his family, Bert had an interest in classic cars, fine wines and the New York Mets.

Bert was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, John.

He is survived by his wife, his children and grandchildren, his sister,Louise Sweeney, his brother Thomas Sweeney (Karen),and nieces,

Alison Murphy, Marisa Sweeney, Amanda Menagh, Caroline Niedemeyer, Samantha Banks, Dena Sweeney, Stephanie Barron, Laura Monchinaki and nephew, Christian Monchinski.

Bert's arrangements and funeral were handled by Altmeyer Funeral home in Virginia Beach.

A requiem Mass was celebrated at Saint Mark the Apostle Church in Virginia Beach on June 17, 2021

Saint Jude's Hospital was a favorite charity of Bert's.

Bert was a decent, caring man who will be missed by all who knew him.
