Janet Cariou Obituary
Janet, (nee Matyasovski), age 74 years, of Wyckoff, formerly of Passaic, on Saturday, October 18, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Raymond Cariou (2007), loving mother of John Pierre Cariou of Wayne, Lynn Marie Bruggemann and her husband John of Wyckoff, Stacy DeGeyter and her husband Robert of Elmwood Park and the late Elaine Dotterweich (2011), dear mother-in-law of John Dotterweigh of Andover, dearest grandmother of Ashley, John, Connor, Julianne, Kimberly and Joshua. Born in Passaic, Janet lived her entire life there until moving in with her daughter two years ago. Mrs. Cariou was a librarian for the Passaic Library for 25 years before retiring in 2010. She was a member of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Sncc, Passaic and its Women's Guild. Janet was also a member of the Clifton Elks Lodge. Mrs. Cariou was an avid reader and loved domestic travel. Funeral service will be at 9 AM on Wednesday, October 22, at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne. Interment will follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 21, between 4 PM and 8 PM. brownngforshay.com

To the Family & Friends of Janet,
Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of such a fine lady!
As a former Trustee and Board President of the Passaic Public Library and the longtime Passaic city Historian, I had the honor and pleasure to both know and work with Janet. She was a joy to be around! She was highly respected by her colleagues and the library patrons! We are an infinitely better world because she has passed through it! May She Rest In Eternal Peace!
