John Fitzmaurice Obituary
FITZMAURICE John E. "Jack" Jr., 81, of Toms River, NJ passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008 at home, after a lengthy illness. Born in Cambridge, MA, he lived in Wyckoff and Roseland, NJ prior to moving to Toms River in 1993. A graduate of St. Anselm College, Manchester, NH, he taught in the Somersworth, NH school system for several years prior to joining the General Electric Company in public relations. In 1964, he joined the American Cyanamid Company, becoming Director of Marketing for their Consumer Products Division, responsible for their Breck and Pine-Sol product lines. In 1974 he became Executive Vice President of Cyanamid's Shulton, Inc. Division, well known for their Old Spice, Pierre Cardin and L'air du Temps Fine Fragrance Product Lines. In 1979, he formed the Periodicals Institute, a marketing/ merchandising agency dedicated to increasing single copy sales of magazines, comics and paperback book at the retail level. He remained President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute until his retirement in 1993. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Montclair Golf Club, West Orange, NJ and the Pompano Beach Golf Club, Pompano Beach, FL. He was active in the Greenbriar Woodlands Golf Association and their men's league and mixed league. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Sister Patricia Fitzmaurice, CSJ, Boston. He is survived by his wife Carol; a son, John "Jack" III and his wife Mari-An of Hingham, MA, daughters Alice Salvini and her husband John of Fair Lawn, NJ and Jane Burke of Fair Lawn, NJ, and a sister, Maureen O'Neal and her husband Albert of No. Marshfield, MA. Grandpa Jack will be greatly missed by Casey, Caitlin and Sean Fitzmaurice, Michael, Tim and Kevin Salvini, and Meagan and Brendan Burke. In keeping with his wishes, Funeral Arrangements are private.
