John Gondola Obituary
Toms River - John R. Gondola, "Pops", 93, of Toms River, NJ, previously Hawthorne, NJ and Paterson, NJ, passed away January 11th, 2019. Born and raised in Paterson, NJ, John married the love of his life Bertha Roberts (nee Rollins) in 1948. John worked at Rosenstein Bros, The Rag Shop and the US Postal Service in Hawthorne, NJ. He retired after 20 years from the Postal Service and moved to Toms River, NJ in 1987. John was drafted into the Army in World War II and served in England, France, Belgium and Germany as a Tech 5th Grade. He was a member of the NALC Branch 120 and was an active member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Toms River, NJ. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Bertha; daughter and son in-law Peggy and Fred Neill; parents John Sr. and Theresa; sisters Elizabeth, Barbara, Ann, Mary and Helen. He is survived by his son William R. Roberts and wife Carole of Hurley, NY; granddaughters Tracy Pryde and husband Reynolds of Washingtonville, NY, Kerrie Marchese and husband John of Marlboro, NY, Kim Neill of Franklin, NJ; great-grandchildren Samantha, Antonio, Sandy, Allyssa and Brian; brother Joseph Gondola and wife Dorothy of Clifton, NJ and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive guests at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Rd., Westwood, NJ on Wednesday, January 16th from 2:30-7:30PM with a celebration of John's life and faith at 7PM. Committal will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Toms River, NJ on Thursday, January 17th at 11:30AM.
