John Portelli Obituary
Portelli, John V., 84 of Bloomingdale, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on July 9, 2018. Beloved husband of 60 years to Janet (Hatem) Portelli. Loving father to Dr. John Portelli & his wife Robin, Louis Portelli & his wife Tracey, and Grace Portelli & her husband Steve Coppa. Devoted grandfather to Jacob Vander Kamp & his wife Laura, Matthew Vander Kamp & his wife Liz, Lucas Vander Kamp, Dominick & Veronica Portelli, Alexandria & Lindsay Portelli.
Mr. Portelli was born in Paterson and lived in Little Falls and Clifton before moving to Bloomingdale 20 years ago. He was a proud entrepreneur and president of Spray Chemical in Clifton. He was a graduate of Fordham University and an Army Veteran. John was an avid fisherman and loved spending many winters in the Florida Keys and Marco Island.
Funeral from the Marrocco Memorial Chapel - 470 Colfax Avenue on Friday at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle RC Church at 10 AM. Cremation Committal Service at East Ridgelawn Cemetery. Visiting Thursday from 6 PM to 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation - William Black Medical Research Building/Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center - 650 W. 168th Street, New York, NY 10032-9982. www.marroccos.com

When I was a high school freshman at Pope Pius HS I had to do a science project. At the time I was failing science, not my best subject. John helped me with everything I needed to do giving me a great deal of his time. I received a very good grade and passed for the year. That was 56 years ago. I'm forever indebted to him. Thanks John and God bless you.
