Joseph Basciano Obituary
Wood-Ridge - Joseph (Pep) Basciano of Wood-Ridge, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the age of 90. Born in the Bronx, NY to the late Grace and Vincent Basciano, Joe grew up in Jersey City and moved to Wood-Ridge in 1944. After serving in the US Navy, Joe began a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. Joe joined the Wood-Ridge Police Department in 1956 and rose to serve as Chief of Police from 1974 until his retirement from the force in 1981. A lifetime PBA member, he was a member of the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Honor Legion and the VFW. Joe continued his career in the Bergen County Welfare Office and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office before retiring at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Marie (Annette) nee Baratta for nearly 65 years and devoted father to Lisa (Rick) Angelillo, Vincent (Tanya) Basciano and Kristine (Raffaele) Zingone.Loving grandfather to Aimee, Nicholas, Abbie, Adam, Corey, Marianna, and Joseph. Dear brother of Evelyn Minutella and his late sisters, Camille and Marie. Dear brother-in-law to Roseanne & Ted Wineteer and Donald Schindler. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Funeral Friday 10:30am from Kohler Funeral Home 280 Hackensack St. Wood-Ridge. Mass 11 am at Assumption R.C. Ch. in Wood-Ridge. Visitation Thursday 3-7pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joseph's memory to the Disabled American Veterans or St Jude Children's Hospital.
