Joseph Szymanski

SZYMANSKI Joseph, 89, of Johnson City, NY died at Hilltop Campus, Johnson City, on Monday, November 1, 2010. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Szymanski, his nine siblings, Constance Gasiorowski, Josephine Bonislawski, Katie Knitowski, Helen Zvolanek, Sophie Weidlich, Mary Weidlich and their spouses, and sister-in-law and brother in law Florence and Stanley Niemiec. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Adeline and five children; Susan (William) Peterson of Vestal, and sons Joseph (Carol) Szymanski of Brick, NJ, Timothy (Laura) Szymanski of Lake Hopatcong, NJ, Thomas (Sarah) Szymanski of Point Pleasant Boro, NJ, and Robert (Suzanne) Szymanski of Glenville, NY. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren; Sarah Peterson (Ash Warren), and Katie Peterson, Joe and Kristen Szymanski, Teddy Szymanski, Tommy and Jackie Szymanski, and Adam and Jean Szymanski. His great-grandson Henry (Hank) Warren also survives him. He also leaves behind many much loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe grew up in Manville, NJ, where he acquired the nickname "Butch" and lived through the hard times of the 1920's and 1930's. He served in the Army Air Corps as an MP in the states during World War II. He lived and worked for the greater part of his life in Rutherford, NJ, as a plumber, first working for others before striking out on his own and starting his own business. He was a true family man. His wife, children, grandchildren and recently his great-grandchild meant the world to him. He enjoyed traveling with his wife through 48 states (regrettably missing Nevada and Kentucky), woodworking, bird watching and entertaining with his harmonica and corny jokes. He loved talking to people and quickly made friends upon moving to Hilltop from his home of 15 years in Endwell, NY only 5 months ago. A memorial service will be held at Hilltop Campus, 286 Deyo Hill Road, Johnson City, NY at 2:30 Thursday afternoon. The family will receive friends at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main St., Johnson City on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM. Burial will be in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Wrightstown, NJ on Friday at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the CJ Foundation for SIDS, 30 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
