Martin Kemp Obituary

KEMP Martin Sr., passed away at the N.J. Veterans Memorial Home on Friday, October 24, 2008. Born in Passaic, he resided there until moving to Clifton eight years ago. Martin is a U.S. Marine Corps Vet-eran of WWII who fought in the Battle of Bloody Ridge on Guadalcanal where he was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart Medal. He is also a member of the Military Order of The Purple Heart. Prior to his war service, he was an avid body builder who was named Mr. New Jersey and a Golden Gloves Boxer at the Passaic YMCA. Mr. Kemp was employed by Shulton Inc. in Clifton for thirty years prior to his retirement. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Tena, by a son Martin and wife, Shirley of Clifton, by a grandson, Martin Kemp Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Santa Monica, by a sister, Christina English of Port St. Lucie, FL and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by a brother, Peter Kemp and four sisters; Cornelia Van Wageninge, Jean Kemp, Nellie Liptak and Marie Lyons. Visiting hours are Sunday, 2-5 PM, at Allwood Funeral Home, 660-670 Allwood Road, Clifton. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
