HORVATH - Raymond L. of Parsippany died Friday August 29, 2003 at St. Barnabas Hospital after a life of stoicism, vigor and accomplishment despite fighting juvenile diabetes and its complications for 43 years. He was born in Passaic on December 19, 1936, to the late Ida E. (nee Reberia) and the late Andrew L. Horvath. He moved to Paterson and attended Paterson public schools. He served in the United States Marine Corps, graduated with a BS degree from Rutgers University and earned a Masters of Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Mr. Horvath moved to Parsippany in 1966. He retired in June of 2002, as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for J.F. Henry Chemical Co. in Union. He was a member of the Passaic Valley Elks Lodge No. 2111 and St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church. During the 1950's, Raymond garnered many local and state honors as an outstanding school boy athlete at Paterson Eastside High School. He starred as a point guard in basketball, was an all-state 3rd baseman in baseball and he quarterbacked the 1954 Eastside High School undefeated state championship football team and was named the team's most valuable player. During his college years, Raymond played baseball, basketball, football and soccer. Because of his love for sports, he continued his involvement into his adult years, playing several sports recreationally including golf, tennis, basketball and softball. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Maureen (nee Rotzler), his two daughters, Beth of Parsippany and Kathleen of Morristown; his sister, Joyce M. Hagen and her husband, John of Barnegat; his brother, Andrew J. Horvath of Deerfield Beach, Florida; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and John Karpack of Wayne. Two aunts, an uncle, several cousins, five nieces and eleven grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive him.
