LESKO Richard P., of Waldwick, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Sept 17, 1925 and attended Manhattan College for Engineering at the early age of 16. On weekends he played saxophone with his Uncle Bill to raise money for his college tuition. His college days were cut short when WWII broke out and Richard was drafted into the Navy. He proudly served as a Seaman First Class and was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon his return he graduated from college and began a very brief career as an engineer before deciding to pursue his passion: as a professional musician. His career highlight came when he toured with Mary Martin in Peter Pan.The Waldwick community will also remember him as the beloved "Mr. Dick", a role he cherished as a teacher at the Crescent Nursery School started by his mother, Jane (Fecica) Lesko in 1954. Here he found his true calling as the ever smiling teacher of music and life lessons to the myriad of youngsters who attended the nursery school.Richard, one of eight Lesko siblings, is survived by his sister Barbara Vasil of California and many, many nieces and nephews. The family will hold a remembrance service at his home on 100 Crescent Ave. on Monday, May 25th from 1-4 PM. All are welcome to attend.

Uncle Richard was one of the most interesting people to pass through my life. A brief encounter, but a blessing. My thanks to a wonderful family for giving me the opportunity to know him. Love and Prayers

The world has lost a kind soul with the passing of Mr. Dick Lesko. He is remembered fondly by myself and my daughter who was in his care 25 years ago.
My heart goes out to Dick's family. They are not alone in their grieving.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself … any man’s death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
