I fully realize this note is 16 years late, however having grown up in Haworth, NJ I remember Mr Newcomb from when I was a child. My family lived on Sylvan Place and my parents would get together with friends to play cards. One of the couples that came for these social evenings was Mr and Mrs Newcomb. I do remember when he had his book Abandon Ship published and gave my folks an autographed copy. Boy I wish I had held and cherished that copy. I was 14 at the time and very interested in history.
I have recently revisited Mr Newcomb’s books and have been amazed at the detail and depth of his study. I simply fondly remember Mr Newcomb as a family friend and a very nice and down to earth person.
Thank you for your time.
