POWERS
Richard J (Dick), 87, of Baltimore, MD, formerly of Ridgewood, NJ, passed peacefully to the Lord with family at his side on May 13th. Predeceased by his former wife, Patricia Powers. Survived by his five children, their spouses and thirteen grandchildren: Carroll Dunne and her husband Michael of San Clemente, CA and their four children Alexandra, Jaime, Connor and Scott; Richard and his wife Margaret of Mahwah, NJ and their four children, Bridget, Molly, Kevin and Maggie; Mary Hyde of Scituate, MA and her two children Brendan and Sarah; Trisha Powers of Sparks, MD; John and his wife Liz of Allendale, NJ and their three children Christopher, John and Mary Grace. Dick Powers always loved vacations with friends and family, cheering on and encouraging his children in all their activities, summers in Spring Lake and welcoming children and grandchildren to his vacation homes in Key West and Myrtle Beach. More recently his most cherished memories were times spent at his summer home in Long Beach Island and holidays with his children and grandchildren. Powers, born in New York City, was predeceased by his father William, mother Charlotte and brother William. He graduated from Regis High School and earned his degrees from Fordham University & Fordham University Law School in New York and achieved his MBA from Harvard. Powers began his professional career with Crevath, Swayne and Moore Law Firm in NYC. He was later hired by and promoted to President and Chairman of Indian Head Corporation in NYC, a Fortune 500 company during the 60's and 70's. After having been involved in over 400 mergers and acquisitions as an attorney and CEO, Powers decided to test his entrepreneurial spirit and in 1978 he made Lyon Conklin, a multi-location wholesaler located in Baltimore, his first acquisition. Several other entities followed, one of which still operates today as Stebbins Anderson in Towson, MD. Powers was very proud to have served on several committees; The Covenant House in New York with Fr. Ritter, Sienna Heights University Board of Trustees and the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. His numerous charitable contributions were signs of his generosity and philanthropic spirit. He was a very loving father (in-law), grandfather and friend to many, he will be missed dearly. To the Powers family, my heart and prayers go out to you all. I must say, it was more than a pleasure serving Dick (Poppy). He was a focused, caring and loving man. Family was always his #1 focus, but he was one of the sharpest businessmen I have ever known. We usually ended our meeting time in prayer. Yes, I will too miss him. Love you all.
