Robert Canaan

CANAAN - Robert, 90, of Fair Lawn, died in his sleep, Sunday, June 23. Dr. Canaan was a physician in Fair Lawn for 45 years and at the Daughter's of Miriam Nursing Home for 5 years. He graduated New York University in 1933 and NYU Medical School in 1937. He served in the army as a doctor in the North African and Italian campaigns from 1941 to 1946, receiving 3 bronze stars. He was an active member of the Fair Lawn Jewish Center. His first wife Evelyn died in 1945. His second wife Pearl predeceased him in 1984. Dr. Canaan is survived by his children Howard, Joyce, and Harvey and five grandchildren Nicholas, Alexander, Alexa, Katherine, and Keith and his companion Elinor Neifeld. A memorial book fund for library books on the subject of Judaism has been established in his name. Dr. Canaan's memory will be honored tonight at Sabbath services at the Fair Lawn Jewish Center.
