I am deeply saddened by my Uncle Bob's passing. He was always a big part of my life for decades....starting when I was a toddler.
I so admired his love of family. He was crazy about his 3 children...always wanting the best for them. He was devoted to his parents also. I remember on Mother's Day after a family dinner at his house he would drive his mother, his aunt, his sister and me around Demarest so they could see the beautiful azaleas in bloom. He loved making people happy. He also always took his mother and his father on rides around the picturesque NJ seashore. I recall that one year Bobby, along with his sister, took his parents on a trip to the California coast...wow what a time they had....enjoying the gorgeous ocean scenery and the Monterey peninsula. I thought it such a thoughtful gesture to take them all to such a beautiful spot.
When he went other trips, he always bought postcards and sent them with lovely notes to his sister and his aunt, in addition to his parents. He was always concerned about their well being and faithfully remembered all with visits, cards and caring notes on their birthdays and special holidays. He was always very generous....buying a TV, a recliner or an air conditioner if he felt it would make a loved one more comfortable.
There are too many other memories to share, but I need to mention his love of the ocean...he loved swimming in the surf, fishing and watching boats come in the Manasquan inlet, and he loved to photograph gorgeous sunsets and share photos with the family. He had a soft place in his heart for Squan. This summer when I am at the Jersey seashore or the inlet in Manasquan I will fondly think of my Uncle Bob with lots of love.
With sympathy and fondness,
Karen ( Lay) Wilkinson
