Samuel Hekemian

HEKEMIAN, Samuel, 89, of Oradell passed away on August 21, 2018. Born on March 29, 1929 to Samuel and Elizabeth Hekemian in Paterson, NJ, he grew up in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. He was the beloved husband of Sandra and the loving father of Peter (Genevieve), Jeffrey (Rachel), Richard and Mark (Brittany), all of whom survive him. His six grandchildren - Jake, Jersey, Christian, Juliet, Gwyneth and Jeffrey - were the crown jewels of his life. Sam was the Chairman & President of The S. Hekemian Group in Englewood (and prior to that, Hekemian & Co.), working as a residential and commercial real estate developer for nearly 60 years. In these roles, he was able to make a tremendous impact throughout the state of New Jersey. An avid member of the Armenian community, he served as President of the Armenian Missionary Association of America and as an elder at the Armenian Presbyterian Church. He also served on the board of the Hackensack University Medical Center. Sam graduated from Hasbrouck Heights High School in 1947 and continued his education at Rutgers University, where he earned his B.S. in Business Administration in 1951. He had a passion for gardening and growing vegetables at home, and greatly enjoyed time spent on the beach in Loveladies, Long Beach Island. Family and friends will be welcomed for visitation on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm at the Armenian Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be private.
