Spyro Georgatos Obituary
Spyro M. Georgatos of Bergenfield, NJ passed away on Saturday August 5, 2017.
Born in Greece, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1969 and was raised in Hackensack prior to settling in Bergenfield 29 years ago. An avid cook, he enjoyed gardening and Greek music. Spyro will be best remembered for his kind nature and ability to make friends instantly, but most important his love for family, friends and his Greek heritage.
He started his professional career with Olympic Airways in New York City prior to becoming the owner/operator of Cousin's Pizzeria in River Vale for 10 years.
Beloved husband of Irene(Hartofilis) Georgatos. Loving father of Metaxas "Max," Nicholas and Christopher Georgatos and "second father" of Ian O'Connell. Devoted father-in-law of Marilyn and Chelsea. Dear brother of Dennis Georgatos and his wife Patty and Nick Georgatos and his wife Stacy. Cherished grandfather of Alexios Spyridon Georgatos.
The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday August 9, 2017 2-4 and 7-9 PM with a 4 PM Trisagion service at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home Inc., 13-31 Saddle River Road Fair Lawn, NJ 07410 201-797-3500. A funeral service is planned for Thursday 10:30 AM at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 51 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ 07652. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. I am very sorry to hear about Spyro. Great guy, great smile and very kind hearted. I am sure he will be remembered not only for the best Chicken Caesar Salad at Cousins Pizza, Rivervale, New Jersey but for the love he had for his family, especially his sons. You now have a special angel watching over you. Continue to make him proud. My heart breaks for his wife, children and family. May he rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers sent your way.
