Stanley Raffa Obituary

RAFFA - Stanley W., on September 29, 2005, of Dumont. Beloved brother of Maria J. Raffa. Loving son of the late Luigi and the late Flavia Raffa. Stanley served in the Army, during World War II, and becoming a P.O.W. in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944, he was released on April 1, 1945. Mr. Raffa attended the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, N.Y., where he was President of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity. He went on to earn his B.S. in physics at Adelphi College. In 1970, the author was elected National President of Alpha Phi Delta, and edited The History of Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity (1914-1973). Mr. Raffa attained the position of Assistant Vice President of Western Union. Now retired, he enjoyed building his massive, impressive collection of stamps, films, books, and records. Mr. Raffa wrote The Hungry and Sick to preserve the memories and experiences of the 106th Division on the sixtieth anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. The funeral mass Monday 9:30 AM., at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Dumont. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, The family will receive friends Sunday 3-7 PM at the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont and request in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alpha Phi Delta Foundation, Inc., Richard Primiano, Treasurer, P.O. Box 8212, Cherry Hill, New Jersey 08002, in his memory.

Maria and family: A note to express sincerest condolences in the passing of Stan. "Mr. Raffa", as I always called him, was my boss at Western Union in Mahwah, NJ.
