Stephen Fischer Obituary

Stephen J. Fischer

Ridgewood - Stephen J. Fischer, 69, passed away at The Ridgewood Center on January 6, 2021. Steve was a lifelong Ridgewood resident who adored everything "Ridgewood." He graduated from Regis High School in Manhattan and Providence College. For the past 35 years he worked as a realtor, a profession he loved. In recent years he was a sales associate/broker for Coldwell Banker Real Estate in Ridgewood. He also loved driving the Zamboni at the Mackay Ice Arena in Englewood. Steve loved music, a passion he shared with his college roommate, Rick Homan. He was surrounded by hundreds of lp's and cd's. He cherished his many guitars and banjos and playing them brought him great joy. Sports, especially basketball at the Y, was something else he loved. He was an ardent do-it-yourselfer with an extensive collection of tools, perfect for a 100 plus year old home. And somehow over the years he developed a love to make homemade pizza and beer. He would throw pizza parties where the last pizza was always called "the kitchen sink." Steve is survived by his sister Lorraine of Ridgewood, brothers Thomas (Ann) of Millsboro, DE, Vincent (Elizabeth) of Westfield, NJ, Daniel (Susan) of Midland Park and sister Margaret Joern (Michael) of Chesapeake, VA; by eight loving nieces and nephews, Julianna Klepper (Brett), Robert, Gregory, Christopher Daniel, Daniel, Matthew, Katherine, Christopher James, and grandnephew Luka; and by lifelong friends Richard Homan of West Milford, NJ and Paul Van Laere, of Glen Rock, NJ. Visitation will be at Feeney Funeral Home, Ridgewood, N.J. on Monday, January 11 from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday January 12, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1 Passaic Street, Ridgewood, NJ at 10 am, with burial immediately following at Christ The King Cemetery, High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Sister Lucy Fund, 1 Passaic Street, Ridgewood, NJ 07450. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I remember Steve growing up on Garfield Place, a great neighborhood to grow up in . In 2010 we were visiting Ridgewood, at Ellen’s house at Christmas. He helped shovel us for 3 hrs a day after Christmas blizzard after he did his house !
He was a very kind man !
