Upper Saddle River - Vida Mylson, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at Care One Hospice in Teaneck, NJ on Friday, April 3rd due to complications following her battle with metaplastic breast cancer. She was 72. Vida was born in Havana, Cuba on February 8, 1948 to her parents Pilar Pelegrin and Pedro Castinera. She lived in Cuba with her parents and brother Anthony until she came to the United States as a refugee in 1968. Upon arriving to the United States, Vida and her mother settled in Union City, NJ. She learned English, worked a full-time job, and focused on finishing her undergraduate studies. She graduated from Jersey City State College, now known as New Jersey City University, with a degree in Accounting. After her graduation, she worked in New York City in the payroll department and later as the Assistant to the President for the retail store Korvettes. During the summer of 1969 Vida met Dennis Mylson and often shared that it is when her life truly began. Vida and Dennis married on June 23, 1973 and settled down in Montvale, NJ where they built their first and only home and life together. They had three children, Amanda, Vida and Denyce. Dennis and Vida left their jobs at Korvettes and went on to own and run Henry David's Restaurant in Keene, NH and Dairy Queens in New Milford, NJ and Allendale, NJ.

Vida was a generous, kind, and supportive friend, mother, and wife. She loved to spend time with family and friends, travel, support local restaurants and small businesses, and to give back to her community in whatever way she could. Her favorite times were watching her three girls grow up, family vacations, hosting family holidays, and spending time with her grandchildren. She welcomed many into her heart and home and made them feel like family. Whether a family member, a friend of one of her daughter's, or an employee at the Dairy Queen, it was often shared that she was a second mother to many. She shaped so many lives with her generous spirit, gracious heart, and the special care she gave to those she loved.

Vida is survived by her daughter Amanda Mylson; her daughter and son-in-law Vida Mylson and Eric Weiner; her daughter and son-in-law, Denyce Mylson and Joseph Olenick; and six grandchildren, Gary, Ethan, Zoe, Sydney, Lucy and Owen. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, mother, father and brother. Due to the ever-changing scenario of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vida's family has decided to hold the memorial service at a later date.
