William Arthur "Art" Canning Jr.

William Canning Obituary

CANNING - William "Art" Arthur, Jr., 91, passed on February 25, 2003 in Coral Springs, FL. Born in Milford, Connecticut in 1911, Art Canning lived many years in the Saddle River and Allendale, NJ area. In 1968 he retired and moved to Sun City, AZ with his wife of 50 years Georgiana Helen (Kelly) Canning who predeceased him in 1986. He is survived by his daughter Shirley A. Scatcherd and son-in-law Ted G. Scatcherd of Coral Springs, FL; granddaughters Victoria S. Musto and her husband Michael Musto and their son Zachary Jon Musto of Wyckoff, NJ and Jennifer S. Burt of Morris Township, NJ. His sister Elizabeth Canning Gruenberg of Summit, NJ also survives him, as well as his niece Susan Canning of Deltona, FL and nephew Lee Canning of Cambridge, OH. He was an active member of his community in NJ and was a charter member of Haledon, NJ Lions Club; a member of Allendale Ambulance Corp.; a member of Saddle River Fire Department; a member of Hawthorne Fortitude Masonic Lodge since 1945 and was a member of the Passaic County Tall Cedars. Art Canning was an owner and operator of service stations in Haledon, Prospect Park and Hawthorne, NJ for many years. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2003, 11 AM at the Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood NJ. Arrangements by the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, Wyckoff.
