William Lippe Obituary

William T. Lippe

William T. Lippe Jr. died peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2017 in his home in Narragansett, Rhode Island surrounded by his loving family. He was born in New York City and spent most of his life in Leonia, NJ. Affectionately known as "Bear" to his family and friends, he is survived by his devoted wife, Penny and their beloved children: William T. III and his wife Mary Lippe of East Greenwich, RI; Margaret Young and her husband Edward of Leonia, NJ; and Christine Walsh and her husband Eamon of Ridgewood, NJ. His pride and love for his nine grandchildren gave him the greatest happiness: Michael, Brendan, Kevin and Brian Lippe; Elizabeth, Christopher and John Young; Liam and Caroline Walsh. Additionally, Bill is survived by his adoring sister Maureen Lippe Taylor and husband, Jerry and their son, Nicholas of New York, NY, and brother Michael Lippe and his daughter Kaitlyn, of Laguna Hills, CA. Bill had a successful career in publishing which included The Wall Street Journal, The Conde Nast Magazine Group, 21st Century Communications, and Publisher of The National Lampoon magazine and Harvard Lampoon Parodies. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was an avid golfer, developing life-long friendships on the links. It was refreshing to hear him speak his mind about sports, politics and life - imparting his insight and humor to family and friends gathered around the fire with cigars and a fine Irish whiskey. His warmth and "Bear hugs" will be sorely missed by all who loved him. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a funeral Mass on Saturday, May 6, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 470 Broad Avenue, Leonia, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday, May 5 from 5-8 p.m. at Patti & Mikatarian Funeral Home, 327 Main St., Fort Lee, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: stjude.org.

I still remember in Pop Warner football Coach Bill Lippe not being happy with my play on the defensive line and to show his displeasure, squeezes his head into one of the other player's helmets and lines up against me in the offensive line to teach me a lesson and yes, he did. Coach Lippe was a tough coach but he was fair!!!
RIP Coach Lippe!!!

Penny, Christine and all the Lippe family...Unfortunately I have just come across this and have read of Bill's passing. I am sorry to not have got in touch sooner. I am deeply sorry for your loss--it is a big one--but I feel extremely lucky to have had someone as special as Bill in my life. He had the most extraordinary heart combined with defiance and fearlessness, I never left his company without walking a foot higher on the way out the door. I adored my funny, sweet, and brave friend Bill, and will keep his smile and words with me for the rest of my life, as I know you all will. Sending you all huge bear hug and smile.XXX

My deepest sympathy to Penny and the entire Lippe Family. Bill was the head coach for my Pop Warner "Gold Team". Bill changed my life by instilling in me a belief in myself and encouraging me to be the best I could be. I never looked back once he instill that confidence and swagger in myself. I will always be indebted to Bill Lippe for what he did for me. Rest in Peace Bill!

I am sorry for you loss Penny. Bill & I ran into each other a few times after H.S., the last being two years ago at the Lee Clark's Scholarship Fundraiser at the American Legion hall. After talking about old memories, we finally got to our families. We both were in agreement that our biggest accomplishment in life was our families. We both have three children and many grandkids [9 on Bill's end & 8 on mine]. Spend a lot of time with your grandchildren Penny, because they will always put a smile on your face.

Those we Love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal." Oh, those wonderful memories, with that Lippe Grin..."Until we meet again Sweet Prince, may God continue holding you in the palm of his hand." - The Manzi Family

To the Lippe Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

Dear Lippe Family,

Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this time of great sorrow. We will always remember laughing and having a great time with Bear in back of Christine and Eamon's home, and at their Christmas parties. He will be terribly missed. Sending love to each and all of you.

"May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of
His hand".

God bless.
