Kenneth Barki Obituary

Kenneth Michael Barki Mar. 16, 1991 - Jun. 19, 2014 TAFTVILLE - Kenneth Michael Barki, age 23, of Taftville passed away on June 19, 2014. He was born on March 16, 1991 in Norwich to Michael and Carolyn (Enos) Barki. Kenneth had a warm, sincere, and shining personality. His smile was contagious, and his sense of humor and wittiness was unmatched. He loved his family and friends, and maintained strong relationships with many. Although teasing his sister Olivia was a regular event, he always looked out for her. Kenneth loved watching the NY Mets baseball team with his Dad, even when they lost. He made a routine out of making practical jokes for his Mom, but could also share deep conversations with her. He was a self-taught pianist. He was a huge Michael Jackson and Old School Hip Hop fan, and could beat box with the best of them. Kenneth played Taftville Little League Baseball till the age of 16 years old. He played the trumpet in the NFA Marching Band throughout high school. He loved to work on his 1995 Dodge Stealth. Kenneth loved to spend time in Mohegan Park, picnicking and playing on the playground as a kid, and later in life jogging and spending time with Krystal. Kenneth always took care of Krystal and he was the best thing in her life. Lastly, he so enjoyed the beach at Ocean City, MD, riding the waves and eating crab cakes. Kenneth recently graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor's Degree in English. Besides his loving parents he is survived by a sister Olivia Barki of Taftville, a maternal Nana Nancy Enos of Uncasville, a fraternal grandfather Julius Barki of New Windsor, NY and a longtime, loving girlfriend Krystal Jones of Norwich. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by a paternal grandmother Marcia Barki and a maternal Poppi David Enos. Family and friends may visit Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich on Monday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church in Taftville at 11:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kenneth's honor to the Wecquonnoc School, 155 Providence St., Taftville, CT 06380. My daughter just told me about Ken. You don't know us, we were customers at WalMart and thought Ken was just the nicest young man. We would try to get in line for his register when we saw him because he was a joy to talk to and be around. As a parent and a grandparent everything inside of me hurts for the loss of this beautiful young man. You must be very proud of him, he sparkled inside and out. My family's prayers and my thoughts will be with all of you.

I didn't know Ken. He went to school with me, and graduated a year before I did. I can honestly say that up until he died, I had never even seen his face before. A ton of my friends knew him, and hearing stories about how he touched so many lives, I feel like I did know him. As a mother, all I can feel is sadness and heartbreak for his family. My daughter is only 6 months old, but just the thought of losing her breaks my heart into a thousand pieces. I can't imagine going to sleep thinking I'll get up in the morning to cook my baby breakfast, but having to get that phone call. I don't know how his parents are able to get out of bed every morning and continue life, but for that, they are so strong. RIP Ken, you will be missed by many. And to Ken's parents, I send my most sincere condolences

I am so sorry to hear about this young man. I am only a shopper where your son worked. He was outstanding in customer service & there was something very special about him. His smile & his kindness was unmatched! On June 18th I checked out in the garden center & had chosen some tree's that I could not fit in my car. Your son went out of his way to hold them for me while I went home to switch vehicles. I planted my trees today in honor of your beloved son. He is in the arms of the angels. My heart & prayers are with this family. May you find comfort. ~A customer of your amazing son.

Very sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy.

June 24, 2014

You didn't know me, but I had the pleasure of being in your presence on June 18th when you were working at Walmart in the garden area. I was purchasing groceries as well as flowers. You joked about being hungry(I had some carrot cake) and I told you "go find someone so you can have your break". The moment was brief, but I left the store thinking what a nice person you were. A great smile, personable, and what a fabulous head of hair! My sincere condolences to your family, friends, and your cousin Giselle.

Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. I worked with Ken for 3 years at Wal-Mart and found him to be a fine young man. Always smiling and respectful. When my husband died suddenly 2 years ago, he was so kind to me, asking how I was doing that day and raising my spirits when I felt down. I will never forget him for that. May God's love be with you all and bring you peace in this time of sorrow.

June 23, 2014

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

At least two years before my daughter met Olivia there was a cashier at Stop and Shop who always said hello and had a smile. Every trip I made to Stop and Shop I made sure I went to this young man's register. I was so excited the day I met Olivia's family and her brother Ken was that special cashier! Every time the Callahan-Gada family went to Walmart we'd see that shiny blue car parked away from all the others and we'd say "there's Olivia's brother's car". Carolyn, Mike and Olivia my heart is breaking for you and I'm so very sorry this happened. Ken was such a special person. This world lost a good one. I am thinking of you all every minute. Love to all of you.

Then I worked at stop & shop with him for a while and that's when he became such a good friend. He was always there through break ups, problems I ever had, etc. always made me smile no matter what situation. He also loved Krystal so much and talked about her frequently. Words cannot express how deeply sorry we are for the tragic loss of your beloved son. We will keep Ken and your Family in our prayers.

Remembrance is a gold chain
Death tries to break but all invain,
To have, to love, and then to part
Is the greatest sorrow of one's heart.
Time may wipe out many things
But this it will wipe out never,
The memory of those happy days,
When you were all together.
God Bless you All..

My family and I are deeply saddened and express our sincere condolences to your family at this very difficult time. I had both Ken and Olivia in their 8th grade CCD class at Sacred Heart in Taftville. My daughters and I will miss our occasions of running into Ken at Walmart. He was always smiling and filled with kind words, and it was so nice to catch up and talk to him. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest condolences to the Barki family for the sudden and tragic loss of Ken. I was Ken's eighth grade history teacher at Kelly and remember him as a good young man. My prayers go out to you at this difficult time.

My heart is broken at the loss of such a fantastic person. It is a testament to his personality and heart that so many people love and remember him despite his short time with us. I will never forget how he made me laugh. The love he felt for his family was unmatched, and there is no question in my mind that he loved you all with an overflowing heart. I pray for your comfort and that you find solice in your memories of him. The world lost a truly great young man, but Heaven has undoubtedly gained an angel.

I'm so very sorry. It was so unexpected and so swift. How slim the grasp we have on this life. How extremely sad. His place is now with God. (John 14:1-4) He can be in no better care. We are praying for you all. Our church is praying for you. May God give you the strength you will need. We love you all.

May God's Blessings be placed upon you during this sad time. But remain happy in the knowledge that Kenneth is with the Lord now living in divine peace and watching over his loved ones that he left behind. Remember the wonderful memories you and Kenneth shared and think of him often for he will remain in your heart doing this. Loss of a loved one is a horrible trial to go through in life but with your belief in the Lord and never ending love for Kenneth will make it bearable until the time when there is finally peace and comfort in your heart. I am so very sorry for your loss. May God Bless you and carry you through this difficult time and give you love and guidance now and in the future so that the loss becomes not a loss but a transition in time until you are all together again in the promised land with the Lord. God Bless and take care.
