Patricia Drobiak Obituary

PATRICIA ANN DROBIAK 1930 - 2018
JEWETT CITY - Patricia Ann Drobiak, 87, of 17 Burleson Lane in Jewett City, entered eternal life on Sunday, January 7th, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Patricia was born in Jewett City, CT on July 20th, 1930, the daughter of the late Vern & Olive Thornton. Patricia attended St. Mary Catholic School through Grade 8, and then graduated from Avoca High School in Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, Patricia returned to Jewett City, and on January 26, 1952 she married Stanley Andrew Drobiak. Stanley predeceased her in 2010, after 58 years of marriage.
Patricia was the much loved Matriarch of a large, extended family. One of her greatest joys was cooking an elaborate Sunday dinner for the entire family every week. She is survived and adored by her 4 children, David , Susan (Michael) Rourke, Laurie (Raymond) Sorder, and Archie (Robin), all of Griswold. Patricia leaves 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and two very special nephews. She was predeceased by her brother John (Wayne) Thornton, and is survived by her brother Vern Thornton, of Florida and sister Elizabeth Mei of Waterford and their wonderful families.
Patricia dedicated her entire life to children, and while raising 4 children and having a full time job, she obtained her Bachelor's, Master's and Administrative Degrees in Education. She served the Griswold Public Schools, in multiple capacities, for 25 years. Upon retirement from the School System, she continued her service to children as a child advocate for the State Department of Education. Patricia was very active in the community, serving on the Griswold Board of Education, Griswold Democratic Town Committee, St. Mary Parish Council, Jewett City Little League (1st Female League President), ECSU E-Club President, Cub Scouts/Girl Scouts Leader, among others. She also enjoyed her time as a Justice of the Peace.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 4-6pm at the Leffler Funeral Home, located at 30 North Main Street in Jewett City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:30am at St. Mary Church on North Main Street in Jewett City. Interment will follow at the Pachaug Cemetary in Griswold.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either St. Mary Parish, 34 North Main Street, Jewett City, CT 06351, or the "Friends of Slater Library", PO Box 523, Jewett City, CT 06351. For the online memorial, visit www.lefflerfuneralhome.com

I can hear our Lord saying to Mrs. Drobiak, "Well done, my good and faithful servant. Welcome home, your job is complete." It is rare how someone can dedicate their life to their family, community, and children of our town and still have enough energy to keep going, I envy that energy. Thank you Mrs. Drobiak for all those years you served our children and community and I know your family will surely miss you but your life was well lived. Love and blessings, Diane Ebberup

Best wishes and comfort to the DROBIAK family for their lost. I must say, I never had more happiness being around such great people as Mr. & Mrs. Drobiak. Thru elementary & high school they were always around giving comfort to others. They are truly missed. Thanks Mrs. "D".

Dear Drobiak family,
I am so very sad to hear of Pat's passing. I know I don't have to tell any of you what a great lady she was. I enjoyed many years of working with her and probably enjoyed even more seeing her love of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was such a wonderful example of how to live a life loving your family and your community. She will be missed by all but I sure expect she is happy to be reunited with her love Stanley! I hope they are listening to some great music and dancing together once again. Our deepest sympathy is sent to you all from John and I and my parents as well,
Hugs, Kathy Iovino
