Ronald Berk Obituary

RONALD ETHAN BERK 1937 - 2018
NORWICH - Ronald Ethan Berk, age 80, of Norwich, passed away on January 4, 2018 at William W. Backus Hospital. He was born on March 24,1937 in Norwich to the late Jack and Ann (Levett) Berk. He married Linda (Martin) Berk on June 19, 1967 at Beth Jacob Synagogue.
Ronald was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He retired from owning and operating The Young Folks Shop a successful children's clothing store which was a local, family owned business. Ronnie eventually went on to work for Joshua Limousine for 23 years. Ronald was active coaching in the PAL with Joe Amodeo for over 20 years. In addition to being an active member in the Beth Jacob Synagogue community, he was also an avid Yankee and Giants fan. He enjoyed his dogs, walking, going to the beach and most of all spending time with his 3 grandkids.
Besides his loving wife Linda, he is survived by a son Michael Joseph Berk and his companion Jennifer Steffy, a daughter Amy Cournoyer and her husband Andrew of Simsbury, and three grandchildren Holden Berk, Lilian Cournoyer and Ethan Cournoyer. He also leaves behind a sister Lois Sacks Lefsky of White Plains, New York, nieces Jennifer Sacks and Allison Klazkin, and lifelong friend Malcolm "Maish" Davis.
A Funeral Service will be held at Beth Jacob Synagogue on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at IOBA Cemetery on Lois Street in Norwich. I extend condolences to members of Ronnie's family...he was part of one of Norwich's great children's clothing stores and my five sons were among the beneficiaries of the enterprise...how Norwich could use something akin to the Young Folks Shop today...

Our prayers go out to the Berk family. Ron would always stop by with Sargent. Then Bruno and also the new dog. We all would talk for hours. We live the next road over. And we always seen him in the limo. Ron was such a beautiful person. He will be greatly missed. May his memories give you peace in your heart.❤

My condolences to the Berk family,
I knew Ronnie since I was a little girl. From Young Folks Shop to Joshua Limousine and around town. My dad owned a popular restaurant and Ronnie was a customer. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.

Remember as time allows that while his body is gone your memories of him will be with you forever and you will never lose them.

So sorry for your family's loss. The pain of losing a loved one, no matter how much time you have with them, always leaves the heart longing for more. I hope together, you find comfort in a hug or shared memory as you celebrate the blessing of the special times you had with him in your lives. I have fond memories of The Young Folks Shop as a child. We were so saddened to learn of your beloved Ron's passing. We all have such fond memories of him walking his sweet little dog and waving and smiling as he passed by our family home in the neighborhood. He was always checking on our Mom and updating us on his family as he was so proud of all of you!
I personally will cherish my memories of him making me laugh and how I loved to babysit for Michael and Amy when they were young. Our deepest condolences to all of you at this sad time. Ron will always be known to our family as the kindest man and a wonderful neighbor.

Dear Berk Family,
So very sorry for your huge loss! I've been away from Norwich since 1969, but when i heard this sad news today, my heart sank. My mother shopped for me at YoungFolks Shop and I always insisted that Ronnie be the one to help me. They say that you may not remember what someone said, but you will always remember the way they made you feel. Ronnie never failed to make this little girl feel like a royal princess. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is so saddened to hear that he has left us and May memories of this wonderful man be a blessing and comfort to you.

Linda and family, I was so very sorry to read this today. My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. He was such a great guy. I had worked at Young folks shop out of high school. He was always so pleasant to be around. He talked alot about Michael and Amy and was very proud of them.

My Ronnie as I called him was a dapper charming gentlemen. It was a true pleasure working with him at Joshua's Limousine. I met his beautiful wife at his side at our company Christmas party, and they were so in love. Ronnie will be truly missed by all. They simply don't make them like him anymore. Blessings and Prayers to his entire beloved family.

I've known Ronnie for the past 14 years as a chauffeur with Joshua's Limosine Service. As senior employees with the company we shared many stories (and laughs) about the challenges faced with the job.

A consummate professional; he will be missed.

We enjoyed many trips with Ronnie - and meals on the road. He was always there when we needed him - even if we had long-delayed flights into NY. He was always cheery and an avid Yankee fan.

Linda, we are so sorry to read the email news of ron's passing just now, and send you and your kids our heartfelt sympathy.
We've known and loved him as a friend for years and years, as you know, and altho he has smiled thru conversations about a health problem, we did not know he was in real trouble. He was an elegant and smart and funny guy. We will miss him. Keep your memories safe.
