William A. Smolen December 18, 1936 - May 1, 2012 Putnam - William A. Smolen, 75, of Woodstock Ave West, Putnam, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. Beloved husband of the love of his life Dorothy (Carlage) Smolen, they were married on April 30, 1960. William was born December 18, 1936 in Webster, MA. Son of the late William J. and the late Frances (Dembinski) Smolen. William was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam. He was a Quality Control Inspector with the Far East division in the shoe industry. William served in the US Navy. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Carlage) Smolen of Putnam, daughter Karen Smolen of Putnam, son Michael Smolen and his wife Barbara of Jacksonville, FL, granddaughter Kayla Smolen of Jacksonville, FL, brother in law Fred Carlage of Clermont, FL, nephew John Carlage of NH, and a niece Lauren Brown of Clermont, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 4, 2012 at 1:00 pm in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam, CT, followed by burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, May 3, 2012 (tonight) at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam from 5:00- 7:00PM and Friday 11:30 am - 12:30 pm. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Daily Bread, PO Box 281, Putnam, CT 06260. To share a memory with his family "Light a Candle" at www.smithandwalkerfh.com
