Donna Schledewitz Obituary

Donna Jean (Smidt) Schledewitz

November 26, 1947 - August 24, 2024

Donna Jean Schledewitz, 76, of Maxwell, passed away on Aug. 24, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Donna was born on Nov. 26, 1947, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of George H. and Reka G. (Banker) Smidt.

Donna graduated from Hastings High School in 1965 and married the love of her life, John Schledewitz, on May 18, 1968, in Glenville. She was first and foremost a loving and devoted wife and mother. She never missed a game or sporting event her children participated in and was an excellent homemaker and cook. Her special pancakes will be remembered by all. Donna fulfilled her dream of becoming a cosmetologist by returning to school after raising her family. She owned and operated The Handy Hair Hut for over twenty years in North Platte until her retirement. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte where she participated in the FLC Quilters and Eve Circles. She was also a member of the ag extension group, Galaxy Gals, and helped coach and cheer on the local Special Olympics. Donna will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Reka Smidt; in-laws, John and Mildred Schledewitz; and daughter, Janet Schledewitz.

Those left to cherish Donna's memory are her husband of 56 years, John; daughter, Jill (Jim) Falcon of Maxwell; son, Johnny Schledewitz of North Platte; grandchildren, Jalissa Falcon, Jimmy (Karsen) Falcon and Justin (Halee) Falcon; great-grandchildren, Avery, Greah, Boon, Jameson, Jack and Arizona Falcon and Madelyn Koubek; brother, Art (Betty) Smidt of Omaha; sister, Sharon (Clyde) Hohlfeldt of Holstein; in-laws, JoAnn Rosse of Lincoln and Larry (Sue) Schledewitz of Maxwell; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Bridge of Hope or Deborah's Legacy. Online condolences may be shared at carpentermemorial.com.

Memorial service is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating. A luncheon follows in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery, near Maxwell. Visitation and viewing are from 1-7 p.m., with family present 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Donna was always a happy and caring person to be around. Our families have been friends for so many years. Growing up was spent with late nights playing cards and a lot of laughing. I have so many memories with them and I know my mom and dad cherished their friendship so much. She will be truly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with John and the family.

My heart breaks for you all. Some of my favorite memories as a child were at Aunt Donna and Johns house. Loved how much her and her family gathered together to play games. She was one of a kind and will be missed by so many people.

I am going to deeply miss my Bestie friend of more than 50 years! She and John stood up for us when Kevin and I were married. She was my partner in pitch and always pulled me out of losing when I overbid! We had fun traveling to go gambling. Especially the time just Donna and I went to Valentine and stayed overnight . I was winning and she was losing so I turned over my game to her and she started winning (so we did not go home broke). I will miss those impromptu meals we would have and then the afternoon of playing cards or rummage sales. Oh I will miss her terribly as we all will. You couldn't find a finer friend, wife, mom grandma, sister. Rest in peace now Donna and we will see you later. Love you always. Sheila

Donna is one of a kind.
I got to know her in the 80’s when she owned and operated the Handy Hair Hut.
She was so kind and thoughtful and full of energy. And her laugh..you always knew when she was near. Her love for her Lord and her family was a huge part of her life!
Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and Donna today and always. She will be missed and rest in paradise dear friend! ✝

I’m going to miss my 50+ year friend & cohort so much. We laughed, planned, cooked, served, cried, commiserated, talked & prayed together. I admired her faith so much especially seeing her struggle with her health issues, in which times it seemed to grow exponentially! I loved her for her honesty, authenticity, love for John & her family, loyalty to friends & always wanting to live life to the fullest. Her legacy will live on & she won’t be forgotten. Sending love and prayers to her family for comfort & peace, knowing where she is..in the arms of Jesus.
