Mary Louise Stoetzel

1935 - 2022

Mary Louise Stoetzel, 87, of North Platte, died on Oct. 21, 2022, at Great Plains Health. Mary was born on Sept. 19, 1935, in Hershey, to William and Helma (Hankins) Lunkwitz on her grandfather's farm. Mary graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1954. She married Glen Stoetzel on Oct. 23, 1954, in Belton, Texas. To this union, four children were born: Carol, Julie, Tim and LeAnn. The couple lived in North Platte and then moved to Leu Ranch in Hayes County, on to Wellfleet, then back to North Platte. Mary always had an open door to everyone. Her hands were continually busy with church projects, China painting and other activities with various organizations. Mary was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She will always be remembered as a giving person. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, William and Helma Lunkwitz; husband, Glen Stoetzel; infant sister, Iva Mae Lunkwitz; brother, Bill Lunkwitz; and step-sister, Linda Spencer. She is survived by her children, Carol (Monty) Brandes of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Julie (Mark) Brandes of North Platte, Tim (Dawn) Stoetzel of Maxwell and LeAnn (Shawn) Hindman of Granger, Iowa; her sister, Margie Griffin of North Platte; sister-in-law, Linda (John) Fairley of Minatare; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Daniel Ramsey officiating. Burial follows at 2 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, near Maxwell. The service will be livestreamed at adamsswanson.com. Visitation is from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
