Melvin Brown Obituary

Melvin Grant Brown, 90, of Maywood, passed away on Dec. 4, 2009, at Senior Living Choices assisted living in Curtis.
Melvin was born to Clyde M. and Esse E. (Stevens) Brown on Oct. 27, 1919, at the Riley Brown ranch located in Southwest Lincoln County.
He spent a few months in Missouri and then returned to Hayes County, where he grew to adulthood on his grandfather Stevens' homestead. He attended country school at Brushy in Frontier County and Valley in Hayes County. He completed the eighth grade and decided to go into ranching and farming.
On Feb. 6, 1941, he married Ellen Russell in Hayes Center. To this union, two children were born, a daughter, Glenda Ruth and a son, Gordon Russell. They made their home in rural Hayes County until he purchased the George Easton farm in Frontier County in 1950 where he lived until ill health forced him to move to Senior Living Choices where he resided until his death.
Melvin enjoyed auctioneering, attending auctions and livestock, especially horses. He could remember the name of a horse and where the horse belonged whenever he saw a picture. He maybe couldn't tell you the owner's name but never forgot the horse's name. He lived for his children and grandchildren. Nothing was ever too much to do for anyone of them.
Melvin was a member of the Gideon's and the Maywood Christian Church where he was very active.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen, of almost 69 years; daughter, Glenda (Richard) Lenz of Curtis; son, Gordon (Alice) of Maywood; a brother, Mackay (Betty) Brown of Maywood; a sister, Marion Hoschouer of Ames, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews; and a host of other friends and relatives.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Esse; a granddaughter, Janae Lenz; a great-granddaughter Bridgett Anderson; and a great-grandson, Jake Richardson.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Services will be today, at 11 a.m., at the Maywood Christian Church with Pastor Dale Heimer, officiating.
Burial will take place at the Maywood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Central Plains Home Health Hospice, 300 E 12th Street, Cozad, NE 69130.
Online condolences can be given at www.blasestrauser.com. Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis is in charge of arrangements.

Ellen and Family,
I was so sorry to hear about Melvin. I have so many memories of him growing up. I could always count on you and Melvin to be in church every Sunday. He was a true servent of the Lord and I know he is with Jesus, the Anointed One, right now. My prayers are with you all.
