Richard Lee "Dick" Houchin, 80, of North Platte, passed away Nov. 30, 2021, at Great Plains Health. Dick was born on Oct. 30, 1941, to Jesse "Pete" Houchin and Doris Anderson in North Platte. Dick grew up in North Platte, tended bar at the Alamo Bar and traveled with a family amusement company. He married Julia French on Aug. 6, 1964, in North Platte. He worked for Diamond Engineering for many years, retiring as a foreman. He and Julia owned Eat-A-Bite restaurant in downtown North Platte. Dick continued to operate the café after Julia's death. Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing, and trapshooting became his passion later in life. He loved to tinker on small engines and motorcycles. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Doris Houchin; his wife, Julia Houchin; sisters, Karen McCown, Sharon Hernandez and Jeannie Houchin; and brother, Michael Houchin. Dick is survived by his two children, Jaimie (Vonnie) Houchin of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Janie (Scott Maddox) Houchin of Cozad; grandchildren, Daniele (Cory) Helie of Arvada, Colorado, Allison (fiancé, Kyle Novak) Baker of Axtell, Stefan (Allison Hardee) Baker of Callaway, Taylor Houchin of Chandler, Arizona, Colby (Aleah) Houchin of Keystone, South Dakota, Sawyer Houchin of Chandler, and Griffith Houchin of Rapid City; great-grandchildren, Reverie Helie, Marvel Helie, Avery Baker and Ledger Houchin; and numerous other family members and many friends. . Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Colby Houchin officiating. Inurnment will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. The service will be livestreamed via the Adams & Swanson Funeral Home Facebook page for those unable to attend. Book signing will be from noon to 7 p.m., with family present 5-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 10, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
