Roger Wisner Obituary

Roger Lee Wisner, 58, of North Platte died March 13, 2009, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

Roger was born on Nov. 24, 1950, at North Platte, the youngest of four children born to James Russell and Gladys Pearl Robbins Wisner. Roger graduated from North Platte High School in 1969 and loved sports while in high school and played football for a few years. After graduation he started bowling on a team and worked for Gayman Sand and Gravel Company where he ran the gravel pump in several gravel quarries for many years.

Roger joined the U.S. Air Force in 1974 and after being in the Air Force for a short time was discharged with a full military disability. He then moved back to the family farm southeast of North Platte by Sioux Lookout. Roger lived on the family farm with his mother and father until his death.
Roger served many years as a V.A. volunteer at the local V.A., drove the V.A. van to Grand Island and volunteered at the Frontier House in North Platte. He was a member of the Valley Christian Church where he enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and serving his Lord Jesus. Roger was a loving son and brother. He helped his father and mother on the farm for many wonderful years.

Roger is survived by his mother, Gladys of North Platte; a brother, Robin (Carol) Wisner of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; two sisters, Barbara (Dave) Lehmkuhler of Copperas Cove, Texas and Linda (Sandy) Swedlund of Grand Island; two nieces and five nephews, James Swedlund of Grand Island, Jason (Amy) Swedlund of Lincoln, Gary (Tracey) Lehmkuhler, Duane Lehmkuhler, Joan Lehmkuhler, all of Copperas Cove, Iowa, Donna (Brian) Haferbier of Ames, Iowa and Russell (Angie) Wisner of North Liberty, Iowa; and other family.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, at Valley Christian Church with Pastor Brent Montgomery officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be in the Plainview Cemetery south of Maxwell. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Valley Christian Church. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C and Sycamore and before service time at the church. Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. Odean Colonial Chapel at C and Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
