Terry Kerner Obituary

Terry Kerner, 69, of Sutherland, formerly of Winner, South Dakota, passed away April 14, 2021, at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln. Terry was born on Dec. 24, 1951, to Alvin and Darlene Kerner in Windom, Minnesota. Terry was the oldest of 11 children, and he was an amazing brother. He graduated from Winner High School in 1970. In his youth, he was an advent athlete who loved to play baseball. Terry enjoyed many big game hunting experiences. At the age of 12, he took his first chance to drive a semi with his father. This sparked his passion. Terry jumped to the chance to begin his career along the side of his father with trucking. He was dedicated to transporting goods all over the country for 53 years, traveling countless miles in his life. He was a kind and thoughtful man, as well as a loving father to Travis, Tyler, Jill, Jolene and Trey. He beamed with pride when it came to his grandchildren: Cole, Cooper, Rylee, Piper, Austin, Rance and Wyatt. In his spare time, he loved planting trees, riding horses, spending time with his grandkids and taking the chance at winning the lottery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Darlene; sons, Marcus and Toby Kerner; and brother-in-law, Nile Brooker. Terry is survived by his children, Travis (Mindy) Kerner of Sutherland, Tyler (Brenda) Kerner of El Mirage, Arizona, Jill (Robert) Kerner of Ainsworth, Jolene (Justin) Christner of Wallace and Trey (Jimi) Kerner of Brule. He leaves a legacy with seven grandchildren, Cole Kerner, Cooper Kerner, Rylee Kerner, Piper Kerner, Austin Kerner, Rance Christner and Wyatt Christner; siblings, Cherly Kerner, Doug Kerner, Kevin Kerner, Gail Kerner, Tim Kerner, Shelia Kerner, Keith Kerner, Alex Kerner, Angela Rutenbeck and Jerred Kerner; and many aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at the Winner United Methodist Church in Winner. Burial will follow at the Winner City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The family will be there to welcome friends and relatives. Mason Funeral Home, Winner, is in charge of arrangements.
